Skies open up in several parts of state

Several parts of the state received scattered rains on Sunday, bringing some respite from the sweltering heat.

Some parts of Shikaripur, Hosanagar, Shivamogga and Theerthahalli taluks received moderate rain on Sunday evening. While sun scorched from morning till dusk, skies opened up towards evening in Shivamogga also. There was only drizzling in Shikaripur town. Rain coupled with thunder and lightning lashed Ripponpet for more than 30 minutes. Power supply was cut off while water accumulated on Theerthahalli Road affecting movement of vehicles.

Hosadurga taluk in Chitradurga district, Chikkajajur in Holalkere and Nymathi in Davangere district recived light rain. Clouds hovered over most parts of Haveri district, while it rained around Hirekerur and Hamsabhavi. There were reports of drizzling in Byadagi and Guttala.

It rained for a while in Kavithala of Raichur district. A shepherd was struck dead by lightning near Neelagal camp on Saturday. The deceased had been identified as Nagaraja (28). Shahpur in Yadgir district received first rain of the year.

Heavy rain lashed Napoklu and surrounding areas in Kodagu on Sunday. Kalasa in Chikkamagaluru too experienced good showers.
