A 23-year-old boy, haling from Tripura’s Khowai district, was arrested from Mysuru in Karnataka on Saturday, on sedition charge for allegedly uploading an anti-national video on the Facebook, post-Pulwama incident.

A statement from the BJP-led state government said Pramesh Debabarma was arrested after a case was registered at the Champahour police station in Khowai district under Section 124 (A) and 120 (B) IPC.

“He had uploaded a video clip on Facebook soon after the Pulwama incident in Kashmir on February 14. The contents of the video echoed anti-India sentiments and amounted to sedition. The matter was verified by Champahour police station and a suo motu complaint was registered.

During the investigation, it was found that the accused person was working in Mysuru for quite some time. With the approval of DGP, Tripura, a team of Khowai district police was deputed to Mysuru and he was arrested from a hotel on Saturday afternoon,” the statement said.

The statement, however, did not divulge the content of the video. “During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime,” it claimed. He was produced before a court in Mysuru with a prayer for transit remand for bringing him to Khowai, Tripura.

Meanwhile, Assam police have also arrested at least 15 youths for allegedly posting “anti-national” posts in social media since the Pulwama incident. At least 19 cases have been registered so far, cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here on Friday.
