Traffic banned on Charmadi ghat till Thursday

Following massive landslides at nine places on the Charmadi ghat on Monday-Tuesday, the police have prohibited the movement of vehicles on the ghat till Thursday morning (for 48 hours).

The Charmadi ghat connects Mangaluru to Bengaluru. The landslides were caused by heavy rain, and the resultant traffic jam occurred for over 24 hours, on Monday-Tuesday.

The debris consisting of slush and fallen trees were cleared on Tuesday afternoon to facilitate the movement of the stranded vehicles.

Fearing further landslides, Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Annamalai said that movement of vehicles is prohibited on the Charmadi ghat for the next 48 hours (Beginning Tuesday).
