Trishika pregnant, joy abounds Mysuru palace

Members of the erstwhile royal family are in an upbeat mood as Trishika Kumari, wife of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, is over four months pregnant.

Even though the erstwhile royal family and its heir do not have any legal position in society, the people of the old Mysuru region, especially in Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts, revere the family. The family is also striving to conserve its heritage and tradition.

According to folklore, the family was cursed by Alamelamma, wife of then chieftain Srirangaraya of Srirangapatna, that the Wadiyar dynasty should end, after the annexation of Srirangapatna by Raja Wadiyar in 1610. So, either incidentally or accidentally, there have been no children for the Maharajas in alternate generations.
