Truck carrying pandal for PM’s rally topples, three killed

A view of the ill-fated truck which claimed three lives in a mishap at Perdur in Udupi on Sunday.

Three persons were killed on the spot and nine others sustained injuries after the mini-truck they were travelling in turned turtle at Chaundi village in the district on Sunday. The truck was carrying pandal equipment meant for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Udupi on Tuesday.

Police said that the driver of the vehicle might have dozed off at the wheels and hit an electricity pole after which the truck turned turtle.The deceased have been identified as Murthy of Chitradurga, Samuel Pegu and Menpro Pegu, both from Assam. The injured are being treated at KMC hospital in Manipal. The Heeriyadka police have registered a case.
