Unrelenting showers batter Gadag, Mysuru districts

Heavy showers, accompanied by thunder and lightning, pounded parts of Mysuru and Gadag districts from Thursday night till the early hours of Friday.

The Thursday night showers have caused extensive damage to crops and property in Naregal town and surrounding villages in Gadag district. The overnight rain left sunflower, maize and jowar crops on a vast tract of the farm under water. With streams and rivulets flowing in full steam, vehicular movement was affected in several villages under Naregal hobli. Several houses in Naregal and Jakkali village have damaged.

Akkialur in Hangal taluk, Haveri district, received moderate to heavy showers on Friday evening. The showers left Sirsi-Molakalmuru state Highway submerged, affecting traffic for a while.Cotton crop on

Cotton crop on vast tract of land under Gurumitkal hobli of Yadgir taluk has remained under water owing to incessant rain in the last two weeks.

The farmers are apprehensive of losing the crop if the dank weather continues. Paddy crop on hundreds of acres in Bhima river basin has been destroyed in the flooding. More than 40 houses were damaged in Thursday night rain at Kyatanal village in Shahpur taluk.

Hosadurga town in Chitradurga district expereinced sudden downpour on Friday afternoon.
Heavy rain pounded Mysuru city from Thursday evening till the wee hours of Friday. The showers left many houses in low-lying areas inundated. Rainwater mixed with sewage gushed into Dasara Exhibition grounds, causing grave hardships to the traders.

Parts of Shivamogga, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts too witnessed rain on Friday.
