Visual impairment no challenge for this topper

 Being visually impaired was not handicap for 16-year-old Abhiram Bhagavath K. This achiever scored 99.04% in the SSLC exams.

A student of Sri Sharada Devi Blind Vikasa Chetana Residential School, Shivamogga, this topper scored 619 (out of 625) in the class 10 exams. He has scored a centum in political science, 99 each in Economics, English, Social Science and Political Science. “You need not fear if you have perseverance”he said.

Bhagavath would take down notes in Braille in class. He said that it was the textbooks that helped him prepare the best. “I would source my textbooks from Mathruchaya in Bengaluru. They offer textbooks free of cost for blind students. Reading it helped me,” he said.

His father works as a clerk in a bank while mother is a homemaker. He hopes to pursue a career in arts. “I will enroll for the HEPL course,” he said.

He took the exams with the help of a scribe. He is also a flute player and has been preparing for the senior level exams. “I scored a 97%,” he said.
