Vote for BJP if you want jungle raj: Mevani

Last Updated 11 May 2018, 12:16 IST

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their “communal politics”, Gujarat MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani on Thursday appealed to the people of Karnataka to cast votes wisely.

“If you want the rule of law to prevail, then vote prudently. But, if you want a jungle raj, then vote for the BJP,” he said.

Mevani was addressing the media with Dr Kafeel Khan (who was arrested in the encephalitis deaths case in Gorakhpur), social activist Nadeem Khan, National Law School professor Kshitij Urs, and Dr Akhila Vasan of the Karnataka Jan Arogya Chaluvali -- under the banner, Karnataka Forum to Save the Constitution.

Mevani said weaker sections, marginalised, Dalits and Muslims had been intentionally targeted by the Adityanath government. He also said innocent people were being victimised in the name of cow protection, Ghar Vaapsi and Love Jihad.

“Modi had promised to establish the rule of the law after the BJP comes to power in Uttar Pradesh. While Dalits and Muslims are being killed indiscriminately, there have been nearly 1,750 fake encounters in the state after Adityanath took over. We are here to appeal to the people to aspire for Narayana Guru and Basavanna’s model of governance, and not that of Modi or Yogi,” he said.

Mevani said if the people of Karnataka voted for BJP, then innocent people like Dr Khan would be put behind bars for trying to do good work.

Dr Khan, who is out on bail, said the Uttar Pradesh government had made a scapegoat out of him.
