Senior Congress leader and Davangere South MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa on Friday clarified that he would not resign from the membership of the Legislative Assembly for not getting a ministerial berth.

Speaking to reporters here, Shamanur said, “I have not asked anyone for a Cabinet berth nor did any party leader approached me. Even without being a minister, I can serve people.”

To me politics is just a hobby. I have so many other things to do in life. People have elected me to serve them. I will work for the welfare of my constituency as MLA, Shamanur said.

To a query on a few seers pressuring the Congress leadership to induct Shamanur into Cabinet, the octogenarian leader said, “It doesn’t work that way. If the seers recommend my name for the Cabinet berth, the ministership will go further away from me.”
