A woman jumped in front of a speeding train along with her two children at the railway underbridge near Kalamandira in the city on Friday. They were killed on the spot.

The dead are Geetha, 28, wife of Yogesh, her daughter Sandhya, 9, and son Varsha, 6, of Koratti village in Amruthur hobli, Kunigal taluk in Tumkur district. Railway police could identify the dead with the help of Geetha’s cousin Srinivas.

The bodies, with severed parts, were found lying on the track in the morning. They may have come to the city in the early morning Bangalore-Mysore train, police said.

Martial strife

Yogesh was a tractor driver by profession. The couple, married for 11 years, had three children: elder son Sachin, a specially-abled boy, besides Sandhya and Varsha. Sachin is studying at a residential school in Mandya, while the other two children were with their mother.

It is said Yogesh and Geetha quarreled often. According to Srinivas, upset over this, Geetha along with her two children went missing on March 11. The same evening, Geetha went to Sachin’s hostel with the intention of taking him along. However, the principal refused to send Sachin with her.

Police said the principal was sceptical about Geetha’s behaviour that day as she had left Sachin at the hostel just a day before. Police have registered a case.
