Says Siddaramaiah, several BJP leaders phones are also being tapped

BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday accused the H D Kumaraswamy led-coalition government of tapping his phone and that of other BJP leaders.

Speaking in Bengaluru, Yeddyurappa said that the phone-tapping was being done on the directions of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. He also charged that former chief minister Siddaramaiah’s phone is also being tapped.

“Yes, it is true that my phone is being tapped and that of my party colleagues. Even Siddaramaiah’s phone has not been spared,” Yeddyurappa said.

Siddaramaiah is the chairman of the coordination and monitoring committee of the coalition government. Several of recent Siddaramaiah’s political statements have not been received well by Kumaraswamy. Yeddyurappa dared the government to order a high-level inquiry into his phone-tapping charges.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara rubbished Yeddyurappa's charges and said that the government was not tapping anybody's phone.

The issue of phone-tapping is not new to Karnataka. Recently, a section of BJP MLAs had claimed that the Kumaraswamy government was tapping their phones. The previous Congress government had charged that the NDA government was tapping their leaders' phones prior to the Assembly polls. In 2016, Kumaraswamy too had charged that the Congress government was tapping his phone.

‘Fall of government imminent’

Yeddyurappa said that it is just a matter of time before the state government will collapse due to the bickering between the coalition partners – the Congress and the JD(S). However, the BJP will not destabilise the government, he added.

Development in the state had come to a standstill. As many as 13 districts were reeling under drought but no minister had bothered to visit the affected area. Rehabilitation work in flood-affected districts was suffering due to lethargy on part of the government, he charged.

He said several Congress leaders were in touch him and will be joining the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
