Google brings conversational Voice AI on YouTube for smart TVs

In late 2025, Google introduced the conversational voice Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool for YouTube on mobile and web versions.

Now, the search engine giant has expanded the AI tool to the YouTube app for smart TVs. Compared to the text-based interaction, voice-based conversation is more natural for consumers to explore YouTube on the smart TV.

"The conversational AI tool launched last year on mobile and web to help viewers engage more deeply with the content they were watching. By bringing this feature to the TV, we’re making the living room experience more interactive than ever," said Kurt Wilms, Senior Director, Product Management, YouTube on TV.

Here's how to use the 'Voice AI' tool on YouTube on a smart TV:

While watching a video, users can select the 'Ask' button to open the tool.

He/she has to use the remote’s microphone button, and they can make conversational queries, such as 'What are other popular videos from this creator?'.

For beginners, YouTube offers several default prompts that can help get started if they don’t know what to ask.

In a related development, YouTube has expanded the shopping affiliate programme to new budding creators with as few as 500 subscribers.

In India, the YouTube Shopping affiliate program has four e-commerce partners--Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa and Purplle.

With this, creators can earn commission by placing a direct link to products listed on e-commerce platforms. It is a win-win situation for the consumers, creators and the online marketplace owner. Shoppers, after seeing the review of the product on YouTube and if satisfied with it, can directly press the shopping link to make a purchase.
