Google Maps gets gen AI-powered 'Ask Maps' feature in India

Google earlier this month launched the generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI)-powered 'Ask Maps' feature in the Maps app in select regions, including the US.

Now, it has been made available in India. It is a Gemini AI-powered conversational feature that makes searching for shops and restaurants less hassle on Google Maps.

With 'Ask Maps', the users can get the full description of a place, such as a restaurant and also the best time to visit. And, give a summary of the reviews. Users do not need to scroll through the reviews of the place listed on Google Maps.

Right after finishing the work, if you are looking for a coffee place quiet enough to read in? To find this specific atmosphere, you can use Ask Maps and this feature will sift through millions of community reviews, cross-reference Popular Times, and check out the local event schedules to help you find the perfect coffee shop for peaceful reading.

The Indian Premier League 2026 edition has started. For the weekend, if you are interested in going to the sports club to watch the cricket match on the big screen with good food. Users can ask, “What are some places with good veg or non-veg appetisers where I can watch the live streaming of today’s match?”

And, you can also follow up with: “Which of these would be easiest to park in?” The 'Ask Maps' feature will highlight important insights and insider tips from real people and web content, such as the most popular appetisers, matchday environment, valet parking availability, and more.

If you are an introvert, it can also help with finding a nice weekend getaway. You just have to describe the place, and Google Maps will offer you a nice trip route. Users can even ask Maps to generate a custom route based on scenery, historical landmarks, or local events. It can even calculate the departure time backwards so that the user arrives perfectly synced with the sunset.
