Salesforce lays off 1,000 employees in new round of job cuts

Amid the advancement of generative Artificial Intelligence tools, several big technology companies have been cutting jobs worldwide.

Global software firm Salesforce has reduced its workforce by around 1000 roles in the latest round of job cuts, reported Business Insider.

It can be noted that in August, the CEO Marc R Benioff had said the company would be integrating more gen AI tech to streamline the work, and this may result in reducing the staff strength from 9,000 to 5,000.

In December 2025, in a major rejig in the top management, Salesforce replaced five high-profile senior executives with six new leaders to guide the company inan AI-first operating model.

The company is now relying on agentic AI to automate most of the white-collar coding work, as it can perform any assigned tasks with minimal human supervision and sometimes can work without any human intervention.

Earlier this month, Anthropic announced new Claude Opus 4.6, the latest software coding assistant that not only churns out code, but also debugs, learn from mistakes and course-corrects to complete tasks. It can become more efficient with each new task.

The company revealed that they had put Claude Opus 4.6 to test and asked to create a C Compiler. For the uninitiated, the C Compiler is an advanced software tool used for translating complex C programming language code into machine-readable code (binary) that a computer's processor can directly execute.

To everyone's surprise, Claude Ope 4.6 created around 16 AI agents, and they together performed complex coding with minimal human intervention, and completed it in just two weeks. For comparison, depending on the complexity of the C Compiler, it requires anywhere between 12 to 100 human programmers coding and testing for several months to deliver a fully-functional product.

India-based Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder Zoho Corp, has a warning to software professionals in India. He said that people who are making a living from coding start considering alternative livelihoods.

"At this point, it is best for those of us who depend on writing code for a living to start considering alternative livelihoods. I include myself in this. I don't say this in panic, but with calm acceptance and embrace," Vembu said.

The landscape in software technology is changing in rapid pace, and many experts want coders to upskill themselves with AI advancements and become a valuable asset.

It will take a lot of effort for people to stay up to date on gen AI, which progresses rapidly every passing wee,k and there is an inevitable scenario where people with no AI skills will lose jobs.
