Critical zero-day security vulnerabilities detected in Google Chrome

Zero-day means a software security vulnerability, where the concerned experts (in this case, engineers at Apple) were previously unaware of its existence, but some hackers may have exploited it to attack systems.

Chrome website is one of the most popular browsers on Windows, macOS and Linux-based computers around the world. It comes with a user-friendly interface and value-added features like extensions and Gemini AI tools, which can help improve productivity.

As per the latest report, Google Chrome has more than 3.4 billion active users. However, it also attracts cyber criminals to prey on naive users. They also come up with ingenious ways to bypass security in Chrome to hack devices.

In the latest instance, a zero-day vulnerability has been detected in Google Chrome.

For the uninitiated, zero-day means a software security vulnerability, where the concerned experts (in this case, engineers at Google) were previously unaware of its existence, but some hackers may have exploited it to attack systems.

"This vulnerability exists in Google Chrome due to a User-After-Free condition in the CSS component of Chrome's rendering engine. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML webpage. Successful exploitations of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system," said the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).

Google has acknowledged the issue and rolled out the update to patch the security loophole in the Chrome browser for computers.

Chrome has been updated to the new version 145.0.7632.75/76 for Windows/Mac and 144.0.7559.75 for Linux.

The update is being rolled out in phases, and it will take a few days or a week to reach all corners of the world.

Just go to the Chrome menu (three dots), select 'Help', then 'About Google Chrome', and Chrome will automatically check for updates and install them.
