Two arrested for attempt to sell ivory

The Forest Department has seized 2.5 kg of ivory worth Rs 75,000 in Kadanuru village near Virajpet and arrested two persons who were attempting to sell the ivory.

Poonaccha of Bollumadu village and Ganesh of Telugara Beedi are the arrested. Both were held when they were trying to sell ivory.

Ganesh had contacted jewellery merchants from Shivamogga to strike a trade deal of ivory, which was in possession of Poonaccha. The latter had purchased ivory through illegal means while he was working in a coffee plantation in Engilagere near Siddapura.

Poonaccha and Ganesh were remanded in judicial custody.
