Udupi dist admin gears up for Shivamogga LS bypoll

Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis said that the election code of conduct will be in force in Udupi district following the announcement of by-election for Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency which includes Udupi’s Byndoor Assembly segment.

Francis told reporters that the EC has announced the election dates and the notification will be issued on October 9. Nominations should be submitted before the deadline on October 16. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 17 and polling will be conducted on November 3. The counting of votes will take place on November 6.

She said the deputy commissioner of Shivamogga will be the returning officer and the deputy director of Land Records in Udupi will be the assistant returning officer. There are 2,21,972 voters in 118-Byndoor assembly constituency, of which 1,14,049 are women voters, one voter under transgender category, 1,786 persons with disability and 33 service voters (who will cast postal votes). EVMs and VVPATs will be used in this by-election. Voters can enrol their names in the voters’ list till October 9 (3 pm) at Byndoor tahsildar office.

There are 243 polling booths and 3 auxiliary polling booths. As many as 332 VVPAT will be used for polling. GPs have been asked to clear all posters and hoardings in their jurisdictions immediately. Through Suvidha app, the political parties and media can seek permission to publish advertisements.

There are 3 video surveillance teams, 3 flying squads, 3 static surveillance teams, 3 sector officer teams, 3 video viewing teams, 1 MCC Nodal officer team and 1 account expenditure team in the district to implement the model code of conduct effectively.
