Centre's decision to raise minimum age of marriage for women is example of paternalism: Owaisi

Speaking on the Centre’s decision of raising the minimum marriage age of women from 18 to 21 years, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaddudin Owaisi on December 17 raised questions that why cannot an Indian citizen choose his life partner at the age of 18 when he can sign contracts, start businesses, elect Prime Ministers, and elect MPs and MLAs.

“This is a very good example of paternalism of the Modi govt. At the age of 18, an Indian citizen can sign contracts, start businesses, choose Prime Ministers and elect MPs and MLAs. I'm of the opinion that the 21 age limit for boys should be reduced to 18,” added Owaisi.
