Last Updated 06 February 2023, 04:57 IST

The collapse of bridges in the Bharmour assembly constituency of Chamba district has become a matter of concern for the people. Recently, a bridge collapsed on February 5 due to the falling of huge rocks from the mountain near Luna on the Chamba-Bharmour road. This bridge was built in the year 1966.

People are forced to cross the river Ravi by climbing up the hill or risking their lives by making small stone bridges across the river. Administrative officials reached the spot soon after they got the information about the bridge collapse. The Executive Engineer of the National Highway also reached the spot. Presently, a pedestrian pulley and a bailey bridge of about 30 meters will be made here for the movement of vehicles.

Executive engineer of the National Highway, Sanjeev Mahajan said, “This bridge was broken due to a falling rock in the early morning today, due to which the movement of vehicles has stopped. At present, a bridge will be made for pedestrian access from here so that people can come on foot and soon a 31-meter Bailey bridge will be made here from where all vehicles can pass. As soon as the bridge reaches here, it will be installed within 3 days.”
