WhatsApp limits message forwarding limit globally

WhatsApp, a leading messaging platform, on Monday announced that it has reduced forward limit of the message in India to five chats.

According to a release issued by the company, WhatsApp said that in July 2018, it had made a significant feature change on its platform. Tech analysts find that the move is expected to reduce spam and misinformation.

"Starting today, WhatsApp will be implementing this change, globally that is all users on the latest versions of WhatsApp can now forward to only five chats at once. This will continue to help keep WhatsApp focused on private messaging with close contacts," states the company.

WhatsApp, started off as a private messaging app to communicate with friends and family, has over 22 crore users in India, and is the biggest market globally for the company.

Worldwide, the company will allow users to forward messages to 20 groups.

This decision comes at a time when the platform is being used to spread fake news. WhatsApp is coming up with new features every few months from group video, voice calling and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) to Stickers, forwarding restrictions and labelled forwarded messages.

"We are deeply committed to your safety and privacy which is why WhatsApp is end-to-end encrypted, and we'll continue to improve our app with features like this one," states the company.
