'Will request ‘Bharat Ratna’ for Siddaganga seer again'

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, on Friday, said that he had appealed to the Union government to confer ‘Bharat Ratna’, the highest civilian award, on Siddaganga seer Shivakumara Swami during his earlier tenure as the CM.

“The seer should be honoured with Bharat Ratna. I will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard. If needed, I am ready to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and the PM to make a request again,” he said.

Speaking at the 74th jayantotsava of the late Balagangadharanatha Swami at Adichunchanagiri Mutt, in Nagamangala taluk, he said, “Siddaganga seer was bestowed with ‘Karnataka Ratna’ during our governance earlier. I had even requested the then president A P J Abdul Kalam to recognise the seer for the prestigious award.”

Self-confidence of seer

Commenting on the seer’s health, Kumaraswamy said, “The recovery of the seer is a medical miracle, compared to last week. God’s grace and self-confidence of the seer are the reasons for his recovery. He was breathing without medical support for an hour on Thursday.”

Like a rock

Speaking about the political developments in the state, the CM said, “Nobody can do anything till I have the blessings of Nirmalanandanatha swami and Nanjavadhoota swami. I will stand like a rock and face the turbulence and continue in power. I am the son of this Srikshetra. Hence, I have come to seek the blessings of the seers.

Comparing the CM to Vishakanta (Lord Shiva) Nanjavadhootha Swami said, “Like Vishakanta, the CM has been swallowing all evil deeds and is doing well for the people. He should not worry about what is happening on the political front, but should take care of his health.”

He lauded the CM for waiving off farmers’ loans within a few days of coming to power. Karnataka is fortunate to have a CM like Kumaraswamy, he added.
