After Punch monkey's viral video, IKEA's plushie is selling like hot cakes; eBay listing as high as $129

An IKEA orangutan stuffed toy is driving a jungle-sized sales surge, thanks to one young monkey from Japan.

Punch, a young macaque born at Ichikawa City Zoo, become an unexpected online star after videos showed him clinging to a plush orangutan like a lifeline. Days after it went viral, Punch's plushie saw a huge demand in the market.

One may say, shoppers went bananas for the stuffed toy this February, with the product getting sold out at multiple locations around the world.

The toy, part of IKEA’s Djungelskog children’s line, quickly cleared itself from the shelves. In Singapore, an IKEA sales associate informed ABS-CBN that the now-viral toy had been completely sold out since Monday (February 23).

Originally retailing for $14.99 in Canada, the brown plushie — described as soft, cuddly and designed for imaginative play — is now fetching far higher prices online. On eBay, some listings initially soared to $350, with others as of February 25 priced at $129.96 under the name “IKEA Orangutan ‘Punch Monkey’ Plush Toy.”

Earlier, IKEA USA shared a photo of the viral monkey's moment with the toy and described the product as “Punch’s comfort orangutan”, further saying, “We’re ALL Punch’s family now.”

To the unversed, Punch was reportedly abandoned by his mother at birth, and was given the toy by zookeepers for comfort and emotional support. What no one expected was how deeply he would bond with it — or how powerfully the moment would resonate worldwide. From zoo enclosure to influencing global checkout carts, Punch’s story has turned a simple toy into a symbol of comfort — and viral demand.
