'Do not say a word against Americans': Iran MP says Pakistan 'not a suitable mediator'

With the talks between Untied States and Iran reaching a stalemate, an Iranian lawmaker has casted serious doubt over Pakistan's role a mediator.

Ebrahim Rezaei, Representative of Dashtestan in Parliament and spokesperson of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission took to X (formerly Twitter) and praised Pakistan for being a good friend in such turbulent times. However, according to him, they lack necessary credibility for mediation.

"Pakistan is a good friend and neighbor of ours, but it is not a suitable intermediary for negotiations and lacks the necessary credibility for mediation. They always take Trump's interests into account and do not say a word against the Americans' wishes," he wrote.

He berated Pakistan for not criticizing the 'Americans' and always siding with Donald Trump. He wrote, "For example, they are unwilling to tell the world that America first accepted Pakistan's proposal but then went back on its word. They do not say that the Americans had commitments regarding the issue of Lebanon or the blocked assets but failed to fulfill them."

A mediator, according to Rezaei, should be impartial.

This harsh criticism against the Pakistan regime comes after peace talks between Iran and United States have reached a stalemate. Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made a pit stop in Islamabad while he was returning from Oman. This was his second visit in 3 days.

Earlier, the Iran foreign minister came to Pakistan and met with the top leaders, however the delegation departed from Islamabad before the US party arrived. This prompted the US President Donald Trump to cancel  the planned trip of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan.
