'Endless hypocritical rhetoric': Iranian President Pezeshkian slams US, lists negotiation 'obstacles'

The Iranian President lashed out at the US President for his "hypocritical rhetoric" and contradictory claims and actions.

Even as US President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran hoping for a peace proposal, his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian has said that threats, blockades and breach of commitments will hinder genuine negotiations. In a post on X Wednesday, he also lashed out without naming the US President for his "hypocritical rhetoric" and contradictory claims and actions.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has welcomed dialogue and agreement and continues to do so. Breach of commitments, blockade and threats are main obstacles to genuine negotiations," Pezeshkian posted.

"World sees your endless hypocritical rhetoric and contradiction between claims and actions."

Yesterday, Trump announced extending the ceasefire indefinitely with Iran hours after denying any possibility for the same. He credited the Pakistani leadership for it but confirmed that the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will continue.

In retaliation to the blockade, the Iranian military continues to attack ships crossing the Strait. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards reportedly seized two ships after attacking them for breaching the blockade imposed by Tehran.

Iran's parliament speaker MB Ghalibaf said on Wednesday that a complete ceasefire cannot be achieved through violations such as naval blockade of the Strait by the US. "They did not achieve their goals through military aggression, nor will they through bullying. The only way forward is to recognize the rights of the Iranian nation," he posted on X.
