Vance says Trump to engage Russia, Ukraine leaders amid 'impasse'

US Vice President J D Vance said that Washington recognised the impasse over talks regarding Russia's war in Ukraine as President Donald Trump prepared to hold talks with the leaders of both countries.

US Vice President J D Vance said on Monday that Washington recognised the impasse over talks regarding Russia's war in Ukraine as President Donald Trump prepared to hold talks with the leaders of both countries.

"We realize there's a bit of an impasse here. And I think the president's going to say to (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin, 'Look, are you serious? Are you real about this?'" Vance told reporters as he prepared to depart Italy following his meeting with the Pope. Vance added that he had just spoken to Trump.
