West Asia conflict | US-Iran truce under strain as Strait of Hormuz remains shut, Lebanon reels under attack from Israel

Despite the collaborated two-day-old ceasefire, reportedly there is no change visible in the blockade of the strait, except the halt in air strike campaign of US and Israel against Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained shut with Iran saying it will only allow 15 ships per day under the ceasefire agreement after Israel's massive attack killed hundreds in Lebanon on the eve of Pakistan mediated US-Iran peace talks amid the war.

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a social media post on Wednesday announced that Pakistan has invited delegations from US and Iran to Islamabad on April 10 in order "to settle all disputes," and that both the countries had agreed to an immediate ceasefire, suspending the aggression on Iran for two weeks amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Three clauses of 10-point proposal violation

Israel on Wednesday carried its biggest attack against Iran-backed Lebanon, killing at least 250 people on heavily populated areas, hours after announcing the first peace talk on the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Iranian Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf on Wednesday accused the United States of violating the terms of the ceasefire that was agreed upon on Tuesday while the United States and Israel denied the extension of ceasefire to Lebanon.

The speaker noted that the non- compliance of the first clause in its agreement regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon, a commitment that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also explicitly referred to and declared as "an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately."

The second clause violated, he claimed was the entry of an intruding drone into Iran airspace, which was destroyed in the city of Lar in Fars Province. He said that this was a clear violation of the clause prohibiting any further violation of Iran airspace.

The final clause violated was the denial of Iran's right to enrichment, which was included in sixth clause of the framework.

"Now, the very "workable basis on which to negotiate" has been openly and clearly violated, even before the negotiations began. In such situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable," Ghalibaf said.

Fresh attacks in Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announced on Thursday that he had given instructions to start peace talks with Lebanon as soon as possible marked a shift after he rebuffed Lebanese calls last month for direct talks.

"The negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon," Netanyahu had said.

Israel invaded Lebanon last month in pursuit of Hezbollah after the group fired into Israel in support of Iran. Around a fifth of Lebanese people have been forced from their homes by the Israeli invasion, with troops aiming to occupy the entire southern swathe of the country.

Israel's military ​said early on Friday it had struck 10 launchers in Lebanon that fired rockets toward northern Israel on Thursday evening, and that Iran-allied armed group Hezbollah had launched a missile at ​Israel, triggering air sirens.

Hezbollah said it had targeted Israeli military infrastructure in the ​northern city of Haifa. The armed group had initially indicated it would pause attacks in line with the ceasefire, but said it would resume fighting after Wednesday's Israeli strikes.

A senior Lebanese official told Reuters Lebanon had spent the day pushing for a temporary ​ceasefire to allow for broader talks with Israel, describing the effort as a "separate track but the same model" as the US-Iran truce.

A US State Department official confirmed the US would host a meeting next week to "discuss ongoing ceasefire negotiations".
