Youth dies of suspected rabies

A 24-year-old youth died of suspected rabies at Ichlampady Kayarthadka, five days ago at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

The deceased is Ashith, son of Anand Poojary. Ashith had just completed his engineering from a college in Sullia. As he developed severe pain in the waist, he was admitted to a private hospital in Puttur. Later, he was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru. However, he failed to respond to the treatment and died on August 28.

Following a report from the hospital that he was affected by rabies, all the 171 persons who had taken part in the final rites were given the anti-rabies injection at Nelyadi PHC on Sunday.
