ZP to ask for govt funds for water, road work

Kodagu Zilla Panchayat general meeting resolved to submit a proposal to the government requesting the release of additional funds for drinking water and road maintenance in the district.

The decision was ratified during the Zilla Panchayat general meeting chaired by the ZP president B A Harish at Old Fort Hall on Monday.

When ZP CEO K Lakshmipriya said that a proposal has already been submitted to the government seeking funds, the furious members asked why the proposal had been sent without their consent. It was later decided to submit a fresh proposal for Rs 300 crore towards drinking water, road, power and drain facilities in the district.

ZP member Bananda Prathyu said that the Kasturirangan report on the conservation of Western Ghats is opposed by the majority and there is no clarity on the implementation. His remarks led to a war of words between the BJP and Congress members.

Member Shivu Madappa accused that the road repair works have not been carried out in his constituency. The works were done from Gonikoppa to T Shettigeri but the stretch from T Shettigeri to Kutta has been left unattended, he said.

PWD engineer Ibrahim said that the maintenance work of PWD roads will be completed within a month.

ZP CEO K Lakshmipriya said that a new estimation will be prepared for drinking water projects.

Member K P Chandrakala drew the attention of the meeting towards the health hazards among people belonging to the tribal community in Byadagotta.

District health and family welfare officer Dr Rajesh replied that special health camps are conducted every week in this regard.

ZP social justice standing committee president C K Bopanna and Bananda Prathyu spoke on the irregularities in public hospitals.
