A 26-year-old employee of a company in Gurgaon was robbed of Rs 23 lakh cash at gunpoint by two motorcycle-borne assailants on Hailey Road near Barakhamba Road.

According to police, Sachin Sharma works as a cashier in Chandigarh-based liquor distributor Uttam Jeet Singh’s company in Gurgaon. He was returning to office after collecting payment from another liquor distributor when the incident took place on Thursday.

Sharma had gone to an office in central Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area. He was carrying the collected amount of money in a bag.

Travelling alone

“He was travelling alone on a motorcycle when the motorcycle-borne assailants overtook him on Hailey Road at around 7 pm,” a police official said.

The two accused forced Sharma to stop his motorcycle and then threatened him at gunpoint. He did not resist the robbery attempt and handed over the bag to them.

He immediately informed his office about the incident and called up at police control room.

Another police official added that there are some loopholes in victim’s claims. “We are not ruling out that he was actually a victim of robbery, but we are probing if it was staged. Further investigation is on,” the official said.

Police have questioned Sharma and several employees of the companies in Gurgaon and Chandni Chowk to rule out any insider’s involvement in the crime.

Sharma has been working for the liquor distributor for the past three years.
