A four-day tribal jamboree aimed at promoting the worship of trees, forests and to preserve tribal culture and traditions will begin from January 31 along the Mulugu -Eturnagaram highway in Telangana.
Lakhs of tribal men and women arrive on bullock carts and walk through deep jungles from faraway places to redeem their vows to protect the trees of five states.
Entire families dressed in their best attires gather for the event.
The jamboree provides an opportunity to see the outside modern gadgets and also a variety of food, bangles, household goods, clothes and artificial ornaments.
This time the Telangana government has set up a folk museum and an amphitheatre at Medaram for display of folk arts daily by over 300 artists.
The tourism department has come up with a tribal food court with a display of environment-friendly, non-vegetarian and vegetarian and green products.
Varieties of organic food, wild fruits and flowers would also be showcased by the forest department.
"This is an opportunity for anthropologists, researchers, and students to acclimatise to the tribal lifestyle," said Gautam, Deputy Collector of Bhupalapally district Deputy.
Over 5,000 mobile toilets and dressing rooms will be set up at Medaram.
