Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has successfully commissioned the largest solar power project in a refinery site in India. The solar power project, with a total capacity of 6.063 MWp, is spread across 34 rooftops within the refinery premises comprising both RCC and sloping sheet steel roofs.

Built at a cost of Rs 27 crores by M/s Tata Power Solar Systems Limited, these solar plants generate more than 24,000 units per day amounting to more than 8.8 million units per annum.

This is resulting in an annual savings of approximately 2,680 Metric tonnes of Oil Equivalent (MTOE) and reduction in CO2 emissions of 7,000 tonnes. This is part of MRPL's commitment to sustainable development with a focus on reduction in carbon emissions.
