Congress’ star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday kick-started her election campaign in Raebareli, her mother and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency, by invoking her grandmother and former prime minister Indira Gandhi and attacking the BJP prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi.

Priyanka, who addressed as many as 10 corner meetings in different parts of the constituency, said that the BJP had been reduced to a party of one individual and termed the ongoing Lok Sabha polls as ‘a battle between two different ideologies’.

“Raebareli has been the karmbhoomi (work place) of Indira Gandhi... we always believe in taking every section of the society along'', she said as she appealed to the people to support the Congress in the polls.

Priyanka said that one individual was calling the shots in the BJP though she did not name Modi. She also listed the achievements of the UPA government and said that Congress' ideology was to ‘unite the people’ while that of the BJP was to ‘divide’ them.

She said that the people of Raebareli were like family members for the Nehru-Gandhi family and they had always showered their love and affection on it.

Priyanka also made light of the opposition candidates from the seat and said that they would not be seen here after the polls. “We are here to stand beside you all the time”, Priyanka added.

She blamed the Samajwadi Party government in the state for the problems in the area. “We are sending funds but they are not being put to good use”, she added.
