#RightToPrivacy: twitter explodes in praise of SC in landmark verdict

The Supreme Court has made history yet again: In 3 days, the Apex court has made 2 verdicts, both of which are being seen as a step forward for law in India. 2 days ago, the Supreme Court banned the practice of triple talaq, terming it unconstitutional. Now, they have ruled, in an absolute majority, that privacy is a fundamental right under the Constitution.

As was the case of triple talaq, people have come forth in appreciating the Supreme Court for the verdict. We compiled some of the tweets below:

One user said that he's now waiting for Modi to make his customary congratulating tweet following the verdict.



While another mused how having siblings effectively eliminates the idea of personal privacy, fundamental rights be damned.

A few users took this opportunity to remind people of the intent of the government when it said people didn't have absolute rights over their own bodies, and how Nilekani categorised "anti-Aadhaar" people into 4 categories:





Lastly, one user put up a chart showing how countries treat the concept of personal privacy. Surprisingly, China has 'effectively' no restrictions on personal privacy.
