'Want child labour-free country'

To curb the increasing number of child labour abuse cases, non-government organisations Bachpan Bachao Andolan and Global March Against Child Labour launched “Child Labour Free India Campaign” on Tuesday to encourage a complete ban on child labour in Delhi.

The campaign aims to bring about an amendment in the existing Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, by urging people to demand an abolition of child labour in the country till the age of 14.

With the Supreme Court recently upholding the validity of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE act), activists believe that the act will be successful only if child labour is abolished.

This campaign will have a series of events, including ‘Bal Maha Panchayat’  where over 100 children from 12 states will deduce ways to curb child labour through a workshop, ‘Knock the Door of Parliamentarians’ initiative where children will visit the residences of MPs and MLAs, and seek support from celebrities where children will request them to join this fight against child labour.
