Wooden tower in Nigeria

Cameroonian architecture practice Herman Kamte & Associates has unveiled a striking concept for a wooden tower in the heart of Ikory in Lagos – one of the most popular and wealthiest residential hubs of Nigeria.

The structure is designed to be the only one of its kind in the country, driven by smart and sustainable architecture. It would rise above the town, stretching the limits of local wooden construction and would comprise mixed residential spaces built on the roof of an existing housing estate.

The structure focuses on open areas with an envelope that highlights the Yoruba culture’s massive presence in the heart of Lagos. Divided into four parts, the building’s apartments are designed around a central core.

The building is oriented in such a way as to maximise daylight and natural ventilation. The entire complex would be built using an LVL (laminated veneer lumber) wooden system for both load-bearing and non-load-bearing support.
