Writers, actors brave heat to vote

Many well-known faces went out in the hot sun to cast their votes in the City on Thursday. Among them was 101-year-old writer and lexicographer G Venkatasubbaiah, who exercised his franchise at a polling station in Jayanagar 7th Block.

Speaking with Deccan Herald, Venkatasubbaiah said: “I have been voting since 1952, which was when the first general elections were held. I have voted for the parliamentary, Assembly as well as corporation elections. 

“Having voted this year too, I can say that the arrangements have been very good and elaborate, and the EC methodology is quite flawless. The crowd was controlled well. The officials even made me sit inside a room when I went to vote along with my son. I am confident that the candidate I voted for will emerge out to be the best.”

Other prominent people from world of literature who cast their votes included Jnanpith awardees U R Ananthamurthy, who voted in Sadashivanagar, and  Chandrashekara Kambara in Katriguppe.

The wife of the late Kannada thespian Dr Rajkumar, Parvathamma, her actor-sons Puneeth Rajkumar and Raghavendra Rajkumar, along with their spouses Ashwini and Mangala, respectively, voted in Sadashivanagar.

Geetha casts vote

Rajkumar’s eldest son and actor Shivrajkumar and his wife Geetha, who is the JD(S) candidate from Shimoga, cast their votes at a booth in Rachenahalli in the City in the afternoon.

Justice N Venkatachala, former Lokayukta and former Supreme Court Judge, too cast his vote at a polling booth in Sadashivanagar. Commissioner of Police Raghavendra Auradkar voted in HSR Layout.
