Split
English (U/A) Cast: James McAvoy, Haley Lu Richardson, Anya Taylor-Joy
Director: M Night Shyamalan

Three girls are locked up in a windowless room by a mysterious man (McAvoy) having multiple identity disorder — 23 personalities in all. Outside, he goes to visit a therapist who tries to understand and subdue a 24th personality — the Beast — which is evolving rapidly and craving the girls.

M Night Shyamalan’s latest offering is the most intense horror-thriller released since January 2017. Split is packed with a refreshing plot and highly engaging ideas about mental issues.

The screenplay works really well while remaining suggestive about what happens next till the end. Shyamalan makes sure that it is more than graphic brutality that makes a good horror-thriller. The special focus on camerawork is what makes this film stand out.

While most of Shyamalan’s movies revolve around senses, this is not far from his niche. However, it is much closer to the real-world theories on how far humans can stretch their limits.

Split is a well-made sinister film where you can love and pity one person at the same time because of confident acting by McAvoy.

He will surprise you as he easily fits into the personalities of 24 characters — some lovable while others are scary. A brilliantly-made haunting film that will keep make you think over.
