Actor Komal is again the hero in Maryade Ramanna, a tale of a youth who unwittingly puts his life at risk when he goes to sell his land in a faraway village. He gets to fall in love in the bargain.

A fine story and screenplay prop up this film, which stutters in the first half but manages to keep the audience riveted in the second.

It is evident that Komal has worked really hard - the fight sequence and the cycle chase are executed very well. He shakes a leg, or two, with the best in business in spite of obvious limitations.

But, to general dismay, the actor sheds his comic persona, is serious and way too earnest throughout the film. This spoils even the climax where he accepts Aparna’s (Nisha) love before confronting the villains.

The pick of the lot is Rajesh, whose spontaneity in the scenes with Nisha is worth watching. In fact, there is hardly any theatrics in the entire film and credit must also go to Guruprasad’s dialogues.

Upendra’s cycle doesn’t get enough screenspace which disappoints some. However M M Keeravani and R Giri’s work are first-class; so is the amount of CGI done. This Ramanna shows too much maryade, putting breaks on harmless fun, but is serious enough to tug at the heartstrings.
