A  local court in Tirupur district has sentenced six persons to death in an honour killing case.  

One of those sentenced to death is Chinnasamy - the father of S Kausalya whose husband Shankar was hacked to death in Tirupur in 2016.

One person was given life imprisonment while another got five years' jail term.

However, Kausalya's mother S Annalakshmi, who was also accused in the murder case, and two more persons were acquitted by the court.

The couple - Shankar and Kausalya - were attacked by a gang with lethal weapons in March in Udumalpet after their inter-caste wedding.  

According to the prosecution, Chinnasamy hired a gang to murder Shankar. The Tamil Nadu Police had chargesheeted 11 persons as accused, including the girl's parents, her maternal uncle and others.

Hailing the judgement, Kausalya said she would continue to fight even if the accused approach a higher court.
