Vijay Luxmi, a teacher of Geography at the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls College near Lucknow, might not have ever imagined that her classroom teachings will turn into a reality.

Luxmi was teaching her students about earthquake, its effects and how to protect themselves in the situation on Saturday, when the tremors jolted parts of Uttar Pradesh.

While she was telling her students of seventh standard that the widow panes, doors and earth begin to shake when the quake strikes, the students got a live demonstration on the subject.

“At first, I did not realise that quake had really struck...the reality dawned a few seconds later,” she said.

She and all the students ran out of the class towards the open field. By then, the students and teachers from other classes had also come out in the open.

Fortunately, none of the students received any injuries. The school building too, was safe, reports said. “I had never expected that the students will get a live demo of the quake,” she said adding that the children will never forget the experience.

She said the students, especially in the areas which is not quake prone, only read about earthquakes in the books. Geologists said that Lucknow had experienced a quake of this magnitude after 40 years.
