Taking the cue from India, Bangladesh has decided to fence its borders with Myanmar using barbed wires to prevent terrorist infiltration and smuggling of goods.

Additional  Director General of Bangladesh Border Guards  Md Habibul Karim told a press conference that the country is working on a project to fence 271 miles of its border with Myanmar using barbed wire.

“In one year, we have put up 17 new BOPs along the Myanmar border with Bangladesh and we expect to cover the rest of the area by December,” Karim told reporters in Agartala on the sidelines of the BSF-BGB commander-level talks that concluded on Wednesday.

The ADG, who led a 20-member delegation at the talks, said several issues on border management, especially coordination, cooperation and exchange of information, was discussed at the meeting.
