A special CBI court on Monday adjourned to December 15 the "illegal" telephone exchange case after former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi Maran failed to appear in court.

When the discharge petitions filed by the Maran brothers and other accused came up for hearing before XIV Additional Judge for CBI cases S Natarajan, both Dayanidhi and Kalanidhi were not available in the court.

The court then adjourned the case for further hearing on the petitions filed by the Maran brothers seeking to dispense with their personal appearance.

The CBI had registered a case on July 23, 2013 against the Maran brothers for setting up an "illegal telephone exchange" which was used to transfer high-resolution data without raising bills for the same during 2004 to 2007.
