Government agencies have reached out to farmers by purchasing over 3,740 tonnes of pulses, mostly moong and urad, at minimum support price this kharif season.

The Centre had directed Food Corporation of India (FCI) and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to procure pulses at farm gate directly from farmers if the market rates slipped below the minimum support price (MSP).

“The government agencies have procured 3,740.47 tonnes of pulses as on October 2 in the ongoing kharif marketing season,” the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said in a statement.

FCI and NAFED have procured 1,075.34 tonnes and 2,665.13 tonnes of kharif pulses, respectively, it said.
