Former MP Jayamohan dies in TN road mishap

Jayamohan (59), was instantly crushed to death in the wee hours near Ambur on the Chennai-Bangalore highway, when the air-conditioned coach to the garden city he was travelling in rammed into a granite carrying tractor-trailer, police sources in Vellore told Deccan Herald over phone.

The bus driver Prakash, said to be hailing from Hassan in Karnataka, was also killed in the mishap, sources said. Over ten other passengers in the bus including another driver from Karnataka, Shivanna, have been seriously injured.

Jayamohan, who was also Tamil Nadu Congress Committee general secretary for several years, is survived by wife, daughter and son. He was elected thrice to the Lok Sabha from the Tirupattur constituency in the erstwhile composite North Arcot district.
After post-mortem Jayamohan’s body was taken to his ancestral home in Vaniyambadi in the district for public homage. Senior Congress leaders from the State including TNCC President, K V Thankkabalu and Karti P Chidambarm expressed shock and grief at his death.
