The Gujarat government on Tuesday announced rules pertaining to a law that prevents schools from charging exorbitant fees.

The state government, through the Gujarat Self-Financed School (Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2017, fixed the fees for primary schools at Rs 15,000 per annum, secondary schools at Rs 25,000 and higher secondary education at Rs 27,000 per annum.

The new fee structure will be binding on not just the schools offering the Gujarat State Education Board curriculum, but also those affiliated to the CBSE, ICSE and International Baccalaureate boards.

The state has, meanwhile, exempted nursery and pre-primary schools from the ambit of this new bill.
