HC judge recuses from hearing plea against Modi

Gujarat High Court judge Justice U R Udhavani on Tuesday recused himself from hearing the criminal revision petition filed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for violation of the People’s Representation Act.

Modi, who as Chief Minister of Gujarat, had allegedly posted a selfie showing the party symbol of Bharatiya Janata Party – Lotus — on the day of the polling in the last Parliamentary elections of 2014.

Justice Udhavani had on September 28 admitted the application filed by former Aam Adami Party (AAP) worker Nishant Varma but later withdrew it after advocate general Kamal Trivedi sought more time, fixing October 6 as next hearing date.

Varma had filed the revision petition after the chief judicial magistrate of Ahmedabad rural court rejected his request for addition of more charges against Modi.
