Rain fury continued in Tamil Nadu after a week’s respite, as two low pressure areas over Bay of Bengal ensured the monsoon remained intense over the state.

Indeed, the latest low pressures are the fourth and the fifth formed over the last 20 days in the monsoon season considered the wettest in at least a decade.

"Yesterday’s trough of low pressure now lies over Southwest Bay and adjoining Sri Lanka coast. Another new trough of low pressure, which was formed on Sunday, lies over Southeast Bay and adjoining south Andaman sea,” a senior Regional Meteorological Department official told Deccan Herald.

“Under its influence, isolated heavy rain may occur over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours,” he added.
