For this year’s Republic Day, Doordarshan will be deploying no less than 27 latest high-definition cameras to capture every glimpse of the gala event and using two hydraulic cranes of over 80 feet height for dynamic aerial shots on Rajpath for the first time.
“This is for the time we will be using these many HD cameras for the coverage of the mega event. The two hydraulic lifts to be used for the first time to capture live shots from above the India Gate, along with four will dinosaur like jimmy jib cranes which could go up to 40 feet, will help us create a visual treat for the television viewers of the live event across the globe,” a DD official told Deccan Herald.
Fifteen of the 27 HD cameras will be deployed at strategic locations on Rajpath. Of them, two robotically controlled cameras will be placed right inside the presidential enclosure. Seven of the total HD cameras will be positioned at the India Gate while another five at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“For the first time, we have been allowed to use our jimmy jib cranes for capturing shots while moving across the Rajpath. It will be placed near President podium and utilised to take vintage shots from the top of the crane,” the official added.
Besides, exclusive dynamic microphones have been deployed on the parade ground to pick up foot movements, command of commanding officers and movement of vehicles and other atmospheric sound for enriching the quality of audio signals.
“This arrangement has been in addition to the sound feeds provided by signals wing of the Army,” officials said.
Over 100 Doordarshan personnel from various departments have been working for three months to ensure uninterrupted live telecast of the elaborate coverage of the Republic Day ceremonies.
The entire coverage has been planned and being executed under the overall supervision of DD’s Additional Director General Nadoja Mahesh Joshi. Special arrangements have been made in association with the Air Force for coverage of the flypast.
