India on Sunday offered to help in the rescue of the 135 soldiers of Pakistan Army, who went missing after a massive avalanche hit their camp in Siachen.
Despite the tense relation between the two countries that turned the Siachen Glacier into the highest battlefield of the world, PM Manmohan Singh told Pakistani President Zardari that New Delhi was ready to provide any sort of humanitarian assistance to Islamabad to save the lives of the 135 people, mostly soldiers, who were trapped under snow after an avalanche hit their camp at Gyari early Saturday.
Singh made the offer to Zardari when the visiting Pakistani President met him at his residence at 7 Race Course Road for lunch. “The (Pakistani) President thanked PMfor the offer and said he would check that,” said Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai.
