Finally, the state government has decided to sanction five guntas of land to 245 farmers of 'Ele Thota' who had lost their lands for the development of the city in 1949.
District in-charge and Public Works Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, in a press conference on Friday here, said, "In a cabinet meeting held on December 2, the government alloted 30.25 acres and decided to give title deeds for the 245 farmers, residents of Ashokapuram in the city."
In 1949, the then City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) had acquired the lands in Malalavadi and Kasaba hobli for developing the city from 245 farmers belonging to SC community. All the farmers had obtained the lands on a contract basis and were involved in betel leaf cultivation, hence the name Ele Thota.
Later, in 1976-77, the then state government had sanctioned land to these farmers at Nachanahalli and in Mysuru taluk, but, the authorities failed to issue relevant documents due to various issues. In 2004-05, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had identified the same land to dump waste and took up construction works.
